HGV Class 1 Training in Kent (Category C+E Licence)

Take the final step to the top of the HGV career ladder. A Class 1 licence lets you drive articulated lorries across the UK and Europe, and it gives you access to the highest-paid driving jobs in logistics. Learn2Pass provides expert one-to-one tuition and full guidance from your first lesson to your final test.

Training is carried out in modern articulated vehicles at our Sittingbourne centre with DVSA-approved instructors, and you test at the Gillingham DVSA test centre on the routes you have trained on. You will complete five days of focused training covering reversing, coupling and uncoupling, on-road driving and test preparation.

What does Class 1 training cost?

Training price: £1,295 + VAT. Including the DVSA tests, the full cost is £1,709 all in. That covers the Off-Road Exercises Test (£40) and the On-Road Driving Test (£115). DVSA fees are not VAT-rated, so they are added after VAT rather than before it.

Finance is available through Snap Finance. We tell you the full cost up front, including the DVSA fees, before you commit to anything.

What is a Class 1 licence?

Class 1 is the common name for Category C+E. It lets you drive an articulated lorry, or a rigid lorry with a full-size trailer, at up to 44 tonnes. It is the highest standard licence in road haulage and the one supermarket, trunking and long-distance operators recruit for.

Our full guide covers this in detail: what is a Class 1 licence?

Do I need Class 2 first?

Yes, for this course. Category C+E requires you to already hold Category C. If you only hold a car licence, our Car to Class 1 course takes you through both stages in one structured programme instead.

How long does it take?

Five days of training once your medical, provisional entitlement and theory test are in place. Most drivers upgrading from Class 2 are licensed within four to eight weeks, depending on DVSA test availability.

What can you earn?

Class 1 drivers in Kent typically earn over £40,000 a year, with experienced artic drivers on £55,000 to £60,000. Demand across supermarkets, parcel networks and general haulage remains high.
