HGV training for Whitstable and Herne Bay

From the coast to your HGV licence.

Learn2Pass trains learners from Whitstable, Tankerton, Chestfield and Herne Bay at our centre at Sittingbourne Logistics Park. It is a straight run west on the A299 Thanet Way, onto the M2 at Brenley Corner and up the A249: about 17 miles from Whitstable and 22 from Herne Bay, usually 30 to 35 minutes. Every lesson is one-to-one in our own full-size trucks, coaches and minibuses with a DVSA-approved instructor, and your practical test is at the Gillingham DVSA test centre. We are family-run, training Kent drivers since 2011.

From Whitstable or Herne Bay, follow the A299 west to the M2, leave at junction 5 and head north on the A249 to Swale Way. It is around 30 minutes from Whitstable and 35 from Herne Bay outside rush hour, with free parking when you arrive.

  • Start times that work for the coast

Training days usually start at 6am or 10am, with around four hours of one-to-one driving. The 10am start suits anyone who would rather miss the early traffic.

  • All-in prices

Licence course prices include VAT and both DVSA tests, and every course has our Price Match Guarantee. Snap Finance is available if you would rather spread the cost, subject to status.

  • Work along the coast and beyond

Coastal towns need drivers for food and parcel delivery, building supplies and the coach and bus trade, and the A299 links you to distribution work around Canterbury and Swale. After you pass, we introduce you to employers across Kent.

  • Help with every step

We explain the D4 medical, the D2 provisional form and the theory and hazard perception tests, and help you book them in the right order so your training dates are not held up.

  • Bus and coach as well as lorries

We train for PCV bus and coach (Category D) in an automatic coach, and D1 minibus. Both are worth a look on the coast, where school, community and holiday transport all need drivers.

How our Whitstable HGV training works

We start by confirming which licence fits the work you want and your all-in price. Then we help you through the medical, provisional entitlement and theory tests. Your one-to-one training runs over consecutive days at our Sittingbourne centre, with your practical test at Gillingham at the end. Whitstable and Herne Bay learners usually drive in along the Thanet Way in 30 to 35 minutes.

Whitstable FAQs

Your questions, answered.

Anything else, call 01795 667 008. Lines are open 8am to 10pm, seven days a week.

Where do Whitstable and Herne Bay learners train?

At our training centre at Sittingbourne Logistics Park on Swale Way, ME10 2FF. Take the A299 Thanet Way west, join the M2 at Brenley Corner, leave at junction 5 and follow the A249 north. It is about 17 miles from Whitstable and 22 from Herne Bay, usually 30 to 35 minutes.

Do you train bus and coach drivers from the coast?

Yes. We train for PCV Category D in an automatic coach and for D1 minibuses. School transport, community transport and the holiday coach trade along the coast all need drivers, and PCV suits people who would rather work with passengers than pallets.

Where will I take my practical test?

At the Gillingham DVSA test centre, Kent's lorry and bus test centre. You take it in one of our vehicles, and we train you on the roads around the test centre beforehand.

What time do training days start?

Usually 6am or 10am, with around four hours of one-to-one driving a day. The 10am start lets you miss the early traffic on the Thanet Way.

How long does it take to get an HGV licence?

Practical training is five days for Class 2, PCV or D1, eight days from a car licence to Class 1 and three days for C1. Before that you need a D4 medical, provisional entitlement and your theory tests, and we help with each one.

Can I spread the cost?

Yes. You can spread the cost with Snap Finance, subject to status. Checking your eligibility does not commit you to booking.
